Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Viewing Hidden Directories and Files

Viewing your hidden files and system files in Windows Vista/Windows 7 is not much different than in Windows XP. Here are the step-by-step directions.

Message Remember that system files are hidden for a reason. Please do not mess around with stuff and follow the directions carefully!

Steps
  1. Click the round blue Start button in the lower left corner
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Folder Options
    • In Windows Vista, you may have to switch over to Classic View to see Folder Options
    • In Windows 7, Folders Options is under Appearance and Personalization
  4. Click the View tab
  5. In the list of options, find "Hidden files and folders" and select the radio button under it called "Show hidden files and folders"
  6. If you want to see system files as well, uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
  7. Click OK
